Cutting-edge geothermal energy solutions in Szeged
Building on Europe’s largest geothermal district heating overhaul, led by the municipally owned SZETAV District Heating Company of Szeged, Danube GeoHeCo project focuses on addressing a critical challenge: meeting the growing demand for cooling. While the city’s geothermal heating system serves 27,256 apartments and 433 public buildings with sustainable energy, cooling is still managed individually in each building. To overcome this, Danube GeoHeCo is testing a groundbreaking geothermal water-based district cooling system at SZETAV’s headquarters, aiming to create a more efficient and integrated energy infrastructure for Szeged.

Who we are
The management and support of the Danube Region Programme are overseen by several programme bodies tasked with programme administration and project assistance. These bodies comprise representatives from all partner countries. DRP also supports the implementation of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR).
